Taking time to connect as a family is something I really did not realize we needed, at least not until we did it.
Like many families, we tend to spend more time shuffling around to activities, keeping up with everyday life and rarely taking time to do relaxing and unplugged activities as a family unit. As you may already know, our boys are 10 years apart in age, so finding mutual interests or places that can entertain both, is often a challenge. At Storeytown Cottages, we experienced a wide variety of activities and enjoyed plenty of space to relax and unwind as a family.
We were invited to spend a few days at Storeytown Cottages in Doaktown, and experience the fun and accommodations they have to offer for families, right here in NB. Although we were provided a complimentary stay, as always, all opinions and experiences are our own.
Our family, along with Bo, our 1 yr old pup, spent 2 nights and 3 days at Storeytown Cottages the last week of August. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage which included the Tail Wagger’s Retreat Package. Bo had his own comfy bed, pillow, and treats.
Here is a little walk through the cottage upon our arrival.
Storeytown is a hidden gem of a retreat, tucked away in the heart of New Brunswick, on the Miramichi River in Doaktown. It is wonderfully quiet and peaceful for those seeking an escape from their busy everyday lives. There are a total of 4 cottages and 4 motel suites, all spaced out nicely, so even those with dogs can rest knowing their pups will not be barking or seeing everyone else the entire time.
They thought of EVERYTHING, the cottage was very clean and comfortable, with everything you need to cook your meals, including a private BBQ on a screened in porch. I loved the screened in porch for drinking my morning coffee. Bo spent most of his time outside on the porch, when not enjoying the water at the river!
There are Kayaks, Canoes, Paddleboards and all the gear to go with them, including life jackets are available to use at all times while staying at Storeytown Cottages. If you choose to go on a river run, there is an additional fee to be transported up the river with tubes or kayaks and be dropped off.
Clayton, Bo, and Lorne all enjoyed the river and spent most of their time down by or in the water. A super way to cool off on the hot August days we were visiting.
Autumn & The Great Outdoors package is also available, and don’t forget, they are open year round, so winter tubing and woodstove sound like the perfect getaway!
The last morning there, I woke up early enough to catch the sunrise and take a little walk on my own down by the river. Have I mentioned just how peaceful this place is? There is something truly magical about sunrises, and experiencing one while here on this beautiful property, it was just what I needed.
Our family had a fantastic few days soaking up the sun, cooling off in the river and reconnecting as a family. Storeytown Cottages is located in a beautiful area of our province, it is the perfect getaway with the whole family, including your canine companions!
Visit their website for details on their year-round packages, follow them on Instagram for more lovely pics of what you will experience when there, and follow their Facebook page for updates and specials.
Looks like a fabulous place to stay! My sisters and I have a little getaway each summer and I am putting this on the short list for our trip next year!
I grew up in Fredericton and know Doaktown and this looks like a charming spot. The idea of tubing or rafting the river is attractive.
Nice!
It was one of the highlights of our visit. Such a lovely spot!
It would be a perfect location for one of your sister trips! Christine and Jeremie are so helpful and would help you plan the perfect retreat!
This looks like a great place, thank you for sharing this info!
I stayed at Storeytown Cottages earlier this year. The cabins are lovely, the hosts kind and friendly. I concur – it’s a wonderful spot for a family getaway.
It is so peaceful, and as a family we really took time to unwind and connect.
