In The Kitchen: Holiday Log Cookies – 3 recipes

Holiday Log Cookies are a quick and convenient option to have on hand over the holiday season, or anytime of year.

If you are looking for a way to have freshly baked cookies when guests arrive, making frozen cookie dough logs is the perfect solution! Enjoy these homemade fresh backed cookies in about 15 minutes!

Cream Cheese Cookies

The Cream Cheese Log Cookie is a slight twist on a sugar cookie. This log cookie recipe has a rich flavour and you can decorate with coloured sugars, icing or other candy topping.

  • 2 3/4 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 1/2 Cups Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Butter room temp
  • 3 oz. Cream Cheese softened
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp Coarse Sugar for topping

  • Combine dry ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • Cream together sugar, butter and cream cheese until fluffy. Add egg and vaniall and beat until smooth.
  • Fold in and add flour mixture slowly until well blended. Let stand 5 minutes.
  • Divide dough in half. Roll each half into a log with floured hands.Wrap tightly with wax paper or plastic wrap.  Place in labeled freezer bag for up to 6 months.

To Bake Cookies

  • Remove log from freezer for 15 minutes prior to slicing. 
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Unwrap dough and slice into 1/2 inch thick cookies.
  • Place on an ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.

Cranberry Citrus Shortbread

Shortbread is a tradition in our family holiday baking, this is a nice festive spin on a classic. Also, having the shortbread in the freezer in logs makes them very convenient when friends or family pops by!

  • 2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Butter room temp
  • 3/4 Cup Icing Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Orange Zest
  • 2 Cups Dried Cranberries
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/8 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp Almond Extract

  • Combine dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
  • Cream butter, sugar and extracts together with blender.
  • Blend in flour mixture slowly until well combined into a firm dough.
  • Fold in orange zest and cranberries until mixted throughout.
  • Form into two logs, wrapping tightly in wax paper or plastic wrap. Place in labeled freezer bag and freeze up to 6 months.

To Bake:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Slice cookies and place on parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Bake 10 minutes.

Slice & Bake Christmas Sugar Cookies

These freezer log sugar cookies have candy sprinkles mixed right into the dough, no additional decorating required.

  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup Butter room temp
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 1 tsp Almond Extract
  • 1/4 Cup Candy Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Combine Flour, baking soda and salt in a bowl and set aside.
  • Cream butter and sugar in mixer until fluffy. Then add almond extract until mixed in.
  • Blend in four mixture to form a dough.
  • Fold in candy sprinkles until distributed throughout the dough.
  • Form into logs, wrapping tightly in wax paper or plastic wrap. Place in labeled freezer bag and freeze up to 6 months.

To Bake

  • Remove from freezer and let rest at room temp for about 15 minutes. Then slice and place on parchment covered baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

  1. Im definitely going to try the crabs berry orange shortbread next weekend! Shortbread cookies are my favorite!
