FRUGAL TIP: Eating What’s On Hand
This past weekend I spent some time reorganizing my pantry and freezer. Needless to say, there was more there than I had realized. Most of the time I know what is in the house and plan meals according to what sales are on.
Lately, for about 2 months, I have been off in my planning and spending more than normal on groceries.
It all comes back to knowing what we have on hand. (Or not knowing and spending much more at the store)
This week and next, I am going to eat what we have on hand. The bulk of each evening family meal will be from what we already have on hand. Not prepped food (freezer meals), but using up some of the staples and meats/fruit and veggies that are frozen in our deep freezer.
Using up noodles from 2 different boxes already opened.
Ground beef that was already cooked up and frozen, Cottage cheese that is close to expiry and tomato sauce (which I have in abundance)
By using up some of what we have, we will not only save money but will make room for the next sale/coupon deal or next batch of freezer meals.
I did buy Milk, Coffee Cream, cucumber, Tomatoes, Apples, Bananas, Blueberries, Eggs, and Yogurt. There are just some of the items we buy fresh every week.
If you find yourself at the store thinking “that’s a good price on x, I wonder if I have one at home? “, maybe it is time to reorganize and plan your meals based on what you have on hand.
REMEMBER: It’s Never a good deal if it goes to waste!
