Frugal Friday – Energy Saving Tip #1

Unplug Everything! Well, within reason. I know in my home there are many items that could be unplugged, especially at night. The energy used by appliances and devices being left plugged in, while not in use, is referred to as Phantom Loads.

 Some phantom loads are the lights on gaming consoles or PVRs, timers, and clocks on appliances, computers in sleep mode, etc. They account for 5-10% of the average household power consumption per year.
