My 80lb Journey – In Need Of A Little Inspiration

Being inspired in life is sometimes hard. We fall into patterns and routines that are automatic and not always good for us. It is no secret I struggle with my weight, but getting at the reason for that struggle is another thing.

Over the past 8 months I have had some great results, and I have faltered. Right now I am dealing with a head full of "stuff" and de-cluttering is taking time and effort. But I am in this for the long haul and finding inspiration along the way. Celebrating the small milestones, and not 100% focused on the weight.

As you may know from my previous posts, I have partnered with Sculpt Health & Wellness Riverview, and Michelle helping me make the positive changes and offering the accountability I need to see changes.

As part of my journey, I am inspired by their success stories, and this is Ray's story. I have known Ray over the years, and he and his wife are so passionate about this program, that they bought the Riverview franchise and are now helping others, myself included!

Words from Ray:

"I was never good enough, at least not in my mind. I was never athletic I didn’t belong to any teams I was just me. I watched my father through most of his adult life struggle with weight issues and vowed I would never do that and I didn’t. Weight came and weight went and I really didn’t care, at least that is what I kept telling myself. As I got older though, the weight would come but then it didn’t go, 180 became 200 became 220 and at one point 250 lbs and there I was…overweight and still telling myself I didn’t care. As I got older I decided it was time to make some changes, firstly I quit smoking then myself and my wife joined the YMCA."

"We would work out at the Y 3-5 times a week, and both thought we were eating healthy but try as I may my body didn’t change. I lifted weights did cardio checked all the reliable sources on the internet and still no changes, I tried some of those great weight loss formulas take two pills twice a day and watch the weight vanish, well all that vanished was the money in my bank account. I was determined that I could do this and my wife started suggesting I go visit the guys at Sculpt. She knew Jason from Tae Kwon Do and kept insisting that they had the answer that would help me lose the weight and more importantly get healthy."

"Finally in April of 2015 I decided it was time and I met with Ryan and Jason at their office and started on what would turn out to be a life changing journey. I was amazed at how excited these two guys were about helping me. In fact, I struggled with it at first, why would two total strangers be so interested in my health? Then I figured it out “the money”. Alas, they were just like the internet and it was the money. Nope, turns out it wasn’t. In fact, nothing could be farther from the truth. In actuality they were just interested in getting me healthy. Not just physically but mentally too. “Progress over perfection baby” was Ryan’s weekly catch phrase. Positive accountability, a support system that really works and results. Real tangible results. Pants that didn’t fit anymore, I am sleeping better, walking taller, I am more confident. It was and is a real life changing experience."

"My Sculpt results in one year were amazing. I lost close to 30 pounds but more importantly I also reduced my body fat percentage from 34% to 20% and this is the number that counts. Now I use a scale to measure my food not my health. Sculpt has taught me that my weight is only a number and it doesn’t matter, what matters is how I feel."

This is Ray's story, and it inspires me to keep trying,to keep moving forward even if it might be slower and more of a process than I anticipated. My physical weight has been at a standstill, but my mental weight is lifting faster and in more areas than I realized needed lifting and purging!
This week I start a new meal plan and am committed to going to the gym 3 times a week. The results are coming and my attitude is brightening again. Darn winter does a job on us sometimes. Coming out of my cave and back into the world!
